The Perfect Playlist...
Believe it or not, there is actually a flow in energy and excitement on the dance floor, and it’s important to have a playlist designed around what makes your dream wedding reception come to life! The playlist needs to work around some of your favorites, as well as include some classics that are sure to get the rest of your guests on their feet. It's important to note the value of when a song is played. When we are designing the perfect setlist for a wedding reception, we typically aim to hook the audience (young and old) first with a song everybody loves, and then keep them having a blast on the dance floor the rest of the night.
"It’s important to have a playlist designed around what makes your dream wedding reception come to life!"
The older crowd may not always stay until the last set, so we always try to play some classic dance songs early in the night to grab their attention and maybe even convince them to forget about their 8pm bedtime and choose to party with you instead! But this doesn’t have to mean the “vintage vinyl” song choices that make you gag...there are plenty of dance classics that appeal to everyone (Think Stevie Wonder, or Michael Jackson) It’s all about finding the gems that make that magic happen...and that’s where our tried and true playlist comes in.
What Kind of Songs Should I Choose???
Believe it or not, you need to hire a band that has had the chance to test these songs out on hundreds of audiences. There are a lot of different audiences out there, and it takes time to establish which tunes have staying power with bringing out the most energy from your guests. You’ll want to make sure you hire a band that has a wealth of experience and shows a deep interest in getting to know you and your crowd. This shows that it’s important to them to get the information they will need on the front end to make sure your party is not only what you envisioned... but one people talk about for the rest of their lives.
You can hire the best band in the land, but at the end of the day, no one knows your family and friends like you do. Make sure you talk with the band on the front end about your favorite genres, and what you anticipate being the crowd favorites... any group worth hiring will make sure to hear you out and design the setlist for the evening accordingly.
What You've Been Waiting for...
Our Favorite Wedding Reception PlayLIST!
Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) - (Stevie Wonder)
We use this song to open the dance floor on nearly every show we play. It is a great dance classic that everyone knows, and works great to get people up and moving.
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell
This duet is a great dance floor classic that for some reason, has always done incredibly well for us...there are just those timeless classics that will always be a hit! This is most definitely one of them.
I Want You Back - The Jackson 5
Michael always does well (as he should) with the dance floor...but we’ve played a lot of his hits, and this Jackson 5 smash for some reason seems to do the best at keeping the energy high and pulling people out on the dance floor.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) - Whitney Houston
When there is a power pop tune needed to unite all the ladies in the audience, none has ever seemed to do better than this classic!
Happy - Pharrell WIlliams
This song has a great feel, and has always worked well as a song for us to bridge the old and new together…”Clap Along!”
Shout, Pts 1 & 2 - The Isley Brothers
This song is certainly one of the most requested we get on the dance floor...and for good reason. It’s fun, interactive, and has no age limit! It goes over great with the college crowd as well as the older generation as well!
Love Shack - The B-52’s
I know I know...this must be a mistake...but believe it or not, this song nearly always packs the dance floor with energy. At first glance it may get an eye roll or two, but by the end of the song, it’ll even have your Uncle Ronnie shouting “Tinnnnn Roof!”...believe me.
Respect - Aretha Franklin
“Respect” is just simply a hit...it just has a way to pump up a dance floor no matter when it is played in the night. A consistent go to for us for sure!
Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars
One hit pop wonders (especially in this day and age) are pretty hit and miss when it comes to packing the dance floor. Though we always have a few present “chart toppers” cycling in and out, they may only do well for a month or two before the excitement wears off. But that certainly isn’t the case with “Uptown Funk”. We have been performing this song for 4 years now, and it has never once let us down!
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
Tried and true...a great sing along that has stood the test of time.
Don’t Stop Believin’ - Journey
If well placed within the evening, this song will never let a dance floor down. It certainly isn’t something that you want to put after “Brown Eyed Girl” necessarily, but in the right moment, this Journey tune can make the dance floor explode.
Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show
Overplayed?...yes...but from a voice of experience, this is one of those “eye roller” songs that is overplayed for a reason. It is a staple for us towards the end of the night...it may not please everyone...but for those it does, it’s an emotional moment.
Proud Mary - Tina Turner
This song has always been a great closer for us. It is packed with energy...starts slow, and ends with a bang. It may not be a tune people always think of when they imagine packing a dance floor, but for us, it has always worked well.
Shut Up And Dance - Walk The Moon
For whatever reason, this song is MAGIC! It is a fantastic song no doubt, but does absolutely incredible on a dance floor. It is a must for us!
Party In The U.S.A. - Miley Cyrus
Now let it be known that our group is based out of Nashville, TN...and we do a lot of performing in the state this song mentions...but even when we play it out of state, this song is always a smash. It’s fun, interactive, and works well with the ladies!
